Online Deliveries are now for real!

Online Deliveries are no longer a discussion; it is a reality – Suzuki Garphyttan and Align Consulting celebrating the successful IFS Cloud 25R2 implementation

Align Consulting (“Align”) has successfully delivered the IFS Cloud 25R2 release update with the new Delivery Continuity feature for Suzuki Garphyttan (“SG”), a global automotive manufacturer with production sites in the US, Mexico, UK, Germany, Sweden, and an implementation of the  site in China. With operations running 24/7, it is virtually impossible for SG to find a maintenance window that does not impact at least one site, making low‑downtime deployments essential.

Twice a year, in May (1) and November (2), IFS releases (R) a new version. The latest available is hence from last year (2025) and there you have the naming logic: 25R2. The lift to IFS Cloud 25R2 was planned, coordinated and executed by consultants at Align. This release marks a major step in IFS Cloud’s evolution, introducing EBR (Edition‑Based Redefinition) compliance with a revised technical architecture that simplifies future upgrades by facilitating Online Deliveries. Align supported SG through the full 25R2 transition, ensuring that all customizations and integrations remained intact while complying with the new architecture.

A key element of the project was SG’s decision to utilize the new Delivery Continuity feature, introduced in 25R2, which supports online deliveries with significantly reduced downtime. During the first online delivery, the actual downtime was only 15 minutes, enabling SG to maintain production across its global sites with almost no disruption—a major milestone for a continuous‑manufacturing environment.

SG’s IFS solution is complex, with multiple customizations built into the solution. Despite this complexity, the team delivered the 25R2 upgrade within the initially agreed timeline along with high quality, receiving strong feedback from SG on the overall process. The system has now been running on 25R2 for more than a month without any major distributions, demonstrating the stability and quality of the deliverables. The experience has also set a ground for future efficency through AI capabilities.

Align also had really good collaboration with IFS during the project through the Pioneer Program, a special initiative to support early‑adopter customers on the latest 25R2 release. Working closely with IFS through this program allowed the team to apply quick fixes, leverage early guidance, and help SG get the most out of the new 25R2 capabilities from day one.

For global high-tech manufacturers like SG, upgrading IFS Cloud must be predictable, safe, and aligned with continuous production. This project illustrates how the combination of EBR‑ready architecture, a structured Pioneer‑level engagement and competent partner collaboration can deliver a complex cloud upgrade with minimal disruption and maximum business value.

Welcome Ashan, Aligns new star!

Ashan’s journey to Align has been driven by curiosity, innovation, and a passion for technology.

With a BSc in Computer Science and an MBA in Business Administration, Ashan brings more than 12 years of experience from IFS, where he grew from Principal Software Engineer to Senior Technical Advisor within the R&D COO Office.

During his time at IFS, he played a pivotal role in shaping the IFS Cloud Platform, architecting, and implementing the Middle-tier OData Provider and the IFS Cloud Deployment Models for both cloud and remote environments.

As one of the founding members of the Lifecycle Experience Team, he helped drive automation across cloud infrastructure and security pipelines, streamlining the delivery and governance of the IFS Cloud ecosystem.

In his later role as Technical Advisor and Customer Advocate, Ashan was a trusted bridge between R&D and real-world customers.

He led technical readiness for IFS pioneer projects, provided architectural guidance, and ensured the platform evolved in line with customer and business needs.

Beyond the work, Ashan is an adventurer at heart.

He loves trekking and hiking, discovering new trails, and immersing himself in nature.

When not outdoors, he enjoys playing PC and mobile games, watching movies and TV dramas, and keeping up with the latest technology trends.

Above all, he values spending time with friends and family, traveling, and enjoying both indoor and outdoor activities.

Ashan combines deep technical expertise with a passion for learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement that fit perfectly with Align’s culture of curiosity and excellence.

The Blue Trip 2025 – A Tradition of Togetherness

A surprise trip into the unknown. No revealed destination, no known plans—just a packing list, a sense of adventure, and the promise of unforgettable moments together. That’s the magic of the Blue Trip – our cherished Align family tradition.

Each September, anticipation builds as we gather from all corners of the company: from Oslo and Stockholm, Linköping, Copenhagen, Bergen and Sri Lanka.

For a few incredible days, we step away from our everyday roles and routines to reconnect, share experiences and blends work and private life in a nice mix, recharge, and rediscover the essence of who we are—together. Thereby facilitating future collaborations and adding even more value to our customers.

This year’s destination? The breathtaking coastal gem of Marina di Pulsano, Italy. With its crystal-clear waters, sun-drenched beaches, and warm hospitality, Pulsano captured our hearts from the very first moment. Days basking in 25+ degree warmth, swimming in turquoise seas, and evenings filled with laughter and connection created a perfect setting for this year’s adventure.

Among the highlights:

  • A visit to the beautiful Masseria Borgo dei Trulli, where we explored local wine traditions and shared a toast to the year behind us and the journey ahead.
  • Relaxing beach days, where time slowed down and friendships grew deeper.

Why Code Review Matters

At Align Consulting, we support our customers by providing technical review and quality assurance for IFS modifications delivered by third parties. As part of this, we offer a structured code review process to validate solutions developed by IFS, or other vendors, before they are delivered to the customer’s environments.

This service is currently being delivered to Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) – a distinguished leader in the maritime industry. While IFS is responsible for the development, Align Consulting acts on behalf of WSS to perform independent code reviews, ensuring all deliverables are technically sound, functionally accurate, and ready for production deployment. Nadeesha De Silva – The girl that always light up the office!

Nadeesha De Silva. Our integration guru that light up the office with her smile and never say “no” to a technical challenge!

 

Background and career? 

I graduated from the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 2011, earning a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology. During my studies, I completed a 6-month internship at Dinota (PVT) Limited, where I gained valuable experience in mobile development. 

After graduating, I joined IFS, beginning my career with the IFS Norway Scandinavia team.  Following this, I had the opportunity to join the IFS Java Server Framework team, focusing mainly on the IFS Integration Framework. This role allowed me to deepen my expertise in integration and backend development. 

After a decade with IFS, I transitioned to a partner company, Xitricon (PVT) Limited, located in Colombo. As the Integration Lead, I led critical integration projects, driving seamless integration solutions and managing cross-functional teams. 

My career then took me to Century Consulting in Western Australia, where I worked remotely from Sri Lanka. This role further broadened my international experience and remote collaboration skills. 

Most recently, I joined Align and relocated to Norway, embracing new challenges and opportunities in a dynamic and innovative environment. 

 

Three words that describe you?  

Passionate, innovative and resilient developer. I am always eager to try out new technology, that is my passion. I am very eager to tackle technical challenges and deliver innovative solutions.  

 

How is a typical workday? 

My workweek is split across multiple locations, offering a dynamic and flexible work environment. Normally I start my day by checking emails. I work with several customers and always want to be up to date with the latest status. After going through my emails, I start working on my tasks – mostly integration tasks. I also have many meetings both internally and with customers. 

 

Highlight of your career? 

I have experienced three major turning points in my career, each significantly shaping my professional journey for the better. The first major turning point was joining the IFS Java Server Framework team. This opportunity allowed me to work with highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals who were humble and eager to share their expertise. Being part of this team was invaluable, providing me with hands-on experience in various new technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Boomi, and Microservices. It was here that I learned essential work ethics. This experience was a true blessing and a pivotal moment in my career. 

The second turning point was working closely with Boomi team to release the IFS REST Connector on Boomi Integration Platform.  

The third major turning point was joining Align and relocating to Norway. This move not only broadened my professional horizons but also provided me with a unique opportunity to work in an international setting. 

Each of these turning points has profoundly impacted my career path.  

   

The best thing about working for Align?   

The best thing about working for Align is undoubtedly the people. They are incredibly friendly, humble, and helpful, which creates a supportive and positive work environment. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such kind and helpful people. When I moved to Norway, my colleagues were with me every step of the way, offering invaluable support as I adapted to my new surroundings. From the very beginning, during the interview process, I realized that the people at Align were genuinely friendly and trustworthy. This initial impression has only been reinforced since I joined the team.

Everyday happiness? 

Spending quality time with my family is the cornerstone of my happiness. My husband Manoj and our son Hirun are my greatest sources of joy. Whether we’re enjoying a meal together, playing games, or just relaxing at home, these moments are precious and make every day special. 

I have a passion for trying out new technology. This constant exploration keeps me excited and engaged in my work as a developer. I channel my enthusiasm for technology into my blog on Medium: https://medium.com/@nadee-86ds  

Though I don’t get to do it every day, traveling is something I truly love. 

 

What do you prefer to do after work? 

These days, I am dedicated to learning Norwegian. It’s essential for my day-to-day life in Norway and helps me integrate better into the community. I have a passion for indoor gardening and love spending time with my plants. After work, I love to relax and enjoy activities with my son and husband.  

 

If you had one extra day during the week, what would you do? 

If I had an extra day during the week, I would dedicate it to exploring the natural beauty of Norway and trying out different sports and outdoor activities such as skiing and hiking. This day would be a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and family bonding, allowing us to create wonderful memories together. 

 

Terje Tollefsen – Han som alltid er hjelpsom, positiv og møter deg med et smil!

Terje Tollefsen, en erfaren utvikler med lang fartstid innenfor IFS. Han som alltid hjelper til og møter sine kollegaer med et smil. I tillegg til å være dyktig profesjonelt, er han også opptatt av sin nye lidenskap: baking av surdeigsbrød.

 

Bakgrunn og karriere:

Jeg studerte informatikk ved DPH i to år og fullførte deretter en bachelorgrad ved Høgskolen i Oslo. Jeg begynte å jobbe i IFS i 2007 og var der frem til jeg sluttet i 2016. Etter det ble jeg ansatt hos Align. 

 

Tre ord som beskriver meg:

Jeg vil beskrive meg selv som hjelpsom, nysgjerrig og positiv. 

 

Hvordan er en typisk arbeidsdag? 

Arbeidsdagen min er veldig variert, siden jeg jobber med mange ulike kunder. Jeg bytter mellom flere versjoner av IFS hver dag. Stort sett er jeg enten på kontoret eller ute hos kunder (for tiden Elvia og Avinor). Jeg hjelper kollegaer med alt fra små til store oppgaver, enten det gjelder IFS 9 eller IFS Cloud. Jeg trives godt med variasjonen og de ulike kundene jeg jobber med. 😊 

 

Trekk frem et stort høydepunkt i karrieren?   

Jeg vil nok ikke trekke frem ett spesielt høydepunkt, da jeg har flere små høydepunkt hver eneste uke. For meg er det veldig givende å kunne løse store problemer for kunder og kollegaer. Dette føles som magi i hverdagen. 

 

Hva er det beste med å jobbe i Align?   

Det beste med å jobbe i Align er først og fremst mine fantastiske kollegaer. Jeg trives også veldig godt med å ha kontroll over min egen arbeidshverdag. Jeg kan påvirke min egen arbeidsuke, og det å bli spurt i forkant av oppdrag gir meg den selvråderetten jeg setter pris på. Dette er noen av grunnene til at jeg trives så godt.

Hva er hverdagslykke for deg?   

For meg handler hverdagslykke om turer ved Oslofjorden (i nærområdet). Jeg setter også stor pris på å nyte en god bok, film eller musikk. Nylig har jeg også oppdaget gleden ved å bake surdeigsbrød. 

 

Hva foretrekker du å gjøre etter jobb?   

Etter en arbeidsdag slapper jeg gjerne av med en god bok eller musikk i sofaen. 

 

Hvis du hadde hatt en ekstra dag i uken, hvordan hadde du brukt den?  

jeg hadde hatt en ekstra dag i uken, ville jeg brukt den til å utvide min “hverdagslykke” ved å gjøre de tingene jeg liker og som gir meg energi. 

 

Riyaz Hamidon – The youngest member of our Align family

Riyaz Hamidon. The youngest member of our Align family. He is adventurous and passionate, and bring lot’s of joy to our Asker office

Background and career 

I pursued my studies in Computer Science at the NIBM in Colombo. During my academic journey, I secured an internship at Virtusa Pvt. Ltd., which provided valuable practical experience. I graduated in December 2018, and in January 2019, I joined IFS. 

At IFS, I was assigned to the Global Consultation Department, where I worked closely with Scandinavian customers. After 4 years I left IFS and joined Cooper Software in the UK, working remotely from Sri Lanka. 

After a short period at Cooper Software, Align entered the scene. Joining Align felt like the right next step in my career. I was very happy to become part of Align’s journey and moved to Norway October 2023. 

 

Three words that describe you?  

I’m very passionate and dedicated about what I do.  

I like to explore and I’m quite curious – love going on new adventures.  

I would also say I’m cooperative – I really like working together with others solving problems and coming up with good solutions for our customers. 

 

How is a typical workday? 

I’m usually in the office. My day always starts up with a cup of coffee (I really can’t start without). The first thing I do after my coffee is check my emails before starting my actual work. My workday consists of a good mix of independent work and meetings. 

 

Highlight of your career? 

I can’t think of single major highlights, the small moments are the ones that really count.  

   

The best thing about working for Align?   

The people and culture – it’s really great. Despite the culture shock moving from Sri Lanka to Norway, the difference in work related culture is all positive here in Align.

Everyday happiness? 

I love the feeling when I’m done with all my “to-do’s”. After these things are done, I can enjoy my time without thinking about everything I should do. If the weather is bad (which is not uncommon here in Norway) I love watching movies. When the weather is nice, I like going for a hike, running or swimming. 

 

What do you prefer to do after work? 

I’m still getting used to living in Norway, so much time is spent adjusting and learning the Norwegian language. But I love running, so I guess I will be doing lots of that when the Norwegian studies slow down a bit.  

Back home in Sri Lanka I would spend much time visit family or friends.  

 

If you had one extra day during the week, what would you do? 

I would use this time going on new adventures and exploring, maybe learning new skills. I would also practice my cooking, which is something I started doing after moving to Norway.  

 

Elvia og Align utnytter mulighetene i IFS Cloud!

Align bistår Elvia med løsningsarkitekt, funksjonell rådgivere, teknisk arkitekt/buildplaceadministrasjon og utviklere.

 

IFS Cloud trigger noe viktige prinsipper;

  1. Alle aktører i økosystemet skal kunne bistå med CRIM (tilpasninger og konfigurasjoner).
  2. Løsningen skal forbli fremtidsrettet og «evergreen», noe som betyr at tilpasninger skal skje utenfor kjernen av applikasjonen for å lette oppdateringer og endringer.
  3. Elvia skal kontinuerlig forbli i forkant av teknologisk utvikling, sikre løpende forbedringer gjennom prosjekter, releases, og oppdateringer.

 

En av de mest signifikante endringene med IFS Cloud er bruken av RestAPIer som muliggjør forbedringer utenfor selve kildekoden. Enkelt sagt kan alle applikasjoner som støtter REST-API nå enkelt kommunisere med IFS Cloud uten større tilpasninger, feks. ved bruk av standardiserte low code-løsninger.

 

Et viktig aspekt med samarbeidet er at Align sin løsningsarkitekt er en integrert del av en større arkitektgruppe hos Elvia. Med sin spesialisering på IFS Cloud, arkitektur og metodeverk har løsningsarkitekten spilt en sentral rolle i å veilede Elvia med tanke på egne forretningsbehov og hvordan disse best kan løses – enten innenfor rammen av IFS, gjennom alternative systemer eller i Elvias egenutviklede løsninger.

 

I denne prosessen har også Aligns utviklere jobbet tett med utviklere fra andre selskaper, både for å analysere muligheter i IFS og for å utvikle optimale løsninger ved bruk av RestAPIer. Dette samarbeidet har vært og vil være avgjørende for å utvikle og implementere innovative løsninger uten tunge tilpasninger, slik at IFS Cloud løsningen forblir evergreen i form av regelmessige oppdateringer. Denne strategien er en nøkkel for å maksimere verdien av IFS og styrke evnen til å møte fremtidige behov.
